It was not so easy to find a wheelchair-accessible hotel in Senegal, without having to rely on large, anonymous hotel chains such as Sheraton or Hilton. The staff of the Hotel Le Lodge des Almadies was very helpful to adjust a room for us and built a couple of wodden ramsp around the hotel. extra built wooden ramps at the few steps at the entry door. This wooden ramp at the entrance to the adjoining building was newly made especially for us (see above).
The rooms are very spacious and have a bathroom with walk-in shower. There is a high threshold in the shower, which can be an obstacle for some wheelchair users. The door also opens to the inside, which makes it difficult to access the sink. We asked to remove it during our stay. We wrote an accessibility report for the management and it was well received.
Wheelchair users should ask for a room facing the street, because it is lighter and has a balcony.
The swimming pool behind the restaurant has steps, the basin is between 1 m and 1.5 m deep. Beside the quiet location in the embassy district of Dakar an absolute highlight is the restaurant with a superb French cuisine at very reasonable prices. The menu was really delicious, topped by a dessert with frozen chocolate cranes as a topping! (02.27.2014)
