After a 45-minute drive from Kuching Airport you get to the Permai Rainforest Resort. Here you are in for a real jungle and nature experience. It is located on a hill just at the coast of Sarawak, so there is rainforest behind you and the beach in front. The resort with its steep paths is far from suitable for wheelchairs and most rooms are housed in tree houses. But for us, a ramp was specially built and the hotel staff provided a 24 hours service to help us move around the resort.
The restaurant, which serves excellent local cuisine, has a ramp and the Internet is also available. The pool is fed by natural mountain water and can only be reached via a few steps. The beach is not accessible. On request, there is a special tour for wheelchair users through the resort, where a local expert explains the fascinating flora and fauna. Even the Sarawak Cultural Village is within walking distance. So even though the resort is not 100% wheelchair accessible, the night with all the rain forest typical noise was still a highly recommendable experience.
