Blue Corner Dive, Nusa Lembongan, Indoensia

In April 2015 we went diving in Nusa Lembongan for a week. The small island east of Bali is known primarily for its well-preserved reef, where you often get to see manta rays, sea snakes, and sunfish (Mola-Mola). The Dive Center Blue Corner Dive is one of the best in Mushroom Bay, the dive guides are well-trained and the equipment was also ok.

Our dive guide Phil organized and especially for me as a wheelchair user a Sodiak with a shallow edge, I could enter more easily than the traditional outrigger boats they normally use. To get me into the water, two people put me on the edge of the boat and then pushed me into the water. To lift me up after the dive they just wrapped two tank straps around my torso and my legs and lifted me onto the edge. Since I have a so-called Scubility Diver license, I can dive relatively independently together with my dive buddy and so it was not too bad that the dive team has no special training to accompany disabled divers. Such diving centers can be found in Bali, for example, Water Worxx or BIPD.

The reefs at Manta Point and Mangrove Point are really fantastic, but there are strong currents in some places. We already had experience with drift dives, but beginners should definitely say if they’ve never done a dive like this so that the dive guide will adapt to it. At the last dive, my sister even saw a sunfish (Mola-Mola), although it is not usually seen in spring.
