International Wheelchairday 2014 in Senegal

Wheelchair Traveller funded a public event to commemorate the International Wheelchair Day on the 1st of March 2014 in Dakar, Senegal!

This day intends to:

  • Celebrate the positive impact a wheelchair has had in the lives of wheelchair users.
  • To celebrate the great work of the many millions of people who
provide wheelchairs, who provide support and care for wheelchair users and
who make the world a better and more accessible place for people with
    mobility issues.
  • To acknowledge and react constructively to the fact there
are many tens of millions of people in the world who need a wheelchair, but
    are unable to acquire one.

Thanks to the support from FormEduc and Handicap International around 50 wheelchair users rolled through the city centre of Dakar. A press conference and speeches also ensured that the message was spread beyond this event and a wheelchair basketball game from the local teams demonstrated how much fun wheelchairs can provide.

Do you have other Ideas, how we could raise awarness next year for the International Wheelchairday? Then please post it here!
